Farmers stop Sooryavanshi screening in Punjab's Hoshiarpur; slam Akshay Kumar for not supporting the protest
Akshay Kumar and Rohit Shetty's Sooryanvashi was released during Diwali weekend after Maharashtra chose to reopen cinema halls on October 22. As the film is receiving a positive response at the box office, a group of farmers protesting the central farm laws on October 6 stopped the screening of the film at five cinema halls in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. As per reports, the posters of the film were torn outside the theatres citing they were opposing the actor for not standing up with farmers amid the farmer's protest.
According to the reports, Bharti Kisan Union (Kadian) activists, led by the outfit's district president Swaran Dhugga, staged a protest march and a demonstration from the local Shaheed Udham Singh Park to Swaran cinema against the screening of Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi.
Farmers began the protest and are camped at Delhi borders since November last year demanding the government to repeal the three agriculture law bills including Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
